Terrific TNR Helpers
Terrific TNR Helpers are on the front lines saving the lives of community cats in the Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, and Stafford areas. These fearless volunteers are out in the trenches trapping feral cats, taking them to get neutered/spayed, and returning them to their habitat. TNR Helpers are reducing the number of
homeless cats and therefore giving current community cats longer, healthier lives. Please refer to our TNR page for more benefits of TNR for community
cats. Training is provided to all TNR volunteers on use of equipment, trapping technique, and safety. Age requirement is 18 or older.
Feisty Feral Caretakers
Meow Stories currently supports 2 feral colonies, one in Stafford and one in Fredericksburg. Our Feisty Feral Caretakers go everyday to feed these colonies. They also keep track of the health of the cats and if any new cats show up we coordinate TNR to get them fixed as soon as possible. Most of the cats in these colonies do not let you get close enough to pet or touch them. They thank you from afar for feeding them and helping them live happy and healthy lives. We ask for a time commitment of 1 day a week for about 1 hour that day for 4 weeks. More weeks are always encouraged. Age requirement is 18 or older.
Transporters
The transporters are needed to help transport all our cats to various vet appointments, adoption events, and to foster homes. We need help with runs to Kincheloe Spay/Neuter Clinic in Fredericksburg and Prevent a Litter in Richmond. These clinics help us keep our cost of spays/neuters, vaccinations, and general vet bills as low as possible. Also sometimes our Fabulous Fosters need help taking their cats and kittens to
adoption events. If you have a license to drive, gas in the tank, and some time you can help change the lives of community cats and fosters! Plus if you keep
track of your mileage you can get a nifty tax deduction.
Fabulous Fosters
Fabulous Fosters are volunteers who agree to provide loving temporary homes to our cats and kittens in need of adoption. Our fosters provide a safe home, high quality food, and litter for their fosters, unless they need assistance obtaining these supplies, arrangements can be made. Meow Stories pays for all vet bills including vaccinations, spays/neuters, and emergency vet bills. Fostering cats and kittens gets them ready for a smooth transition to their forever homes. It helps socialize and housetrain them to make them purr-fect candidates for adoption. Being a Fabulous Foster is a very rewarding way to help the homeless cats and kittens in our area find loving forever homes. Age requirement is 18 or older. See our Fabulous Foster Application and Agreement below for more information.
Adoption Advocates
Adoption Advocates work wholeheartedly to find our cats and kittens the best forever homes in our area. Adoption Advocates work as a team to accomplish many important steps in the adoption process. Most of the work is done setting up, running, and breaking down adoption events. The more adoption events our volunteers help us do the more cats get adopted. Also, Adoption Advocates help with processing adoption applications, home visits, and updating adoption websites with current pictures and descriptions. If you would like to be a part of getting our wonderful cats adopted please join our Affectionate Adoption Advocate Team! Help is always needed! Teenagers are welcome on this team!
Condo Caregivers
Currently, Meow Stories has condos at the Petco on Harrison Road, Fredericksburg . We have cats/kittens who live there for 2 weeks at a time in hopes of finding a forever home. Our Condo Caregivers choose a day or two a week that they can go feed, clean, and play with the cats/kittens. We need at least 1 caregiver for every day of the week. We ask for a time commitment from our Condo Caregivers of at least 1day a week, for less than 1 hour a day, 4 weeks. Of course, we encourage more if you have the time. This is a fun and easy way to help the cats. Teenagers are welcome to assist with these chores under adult supervision.
